We are living in extraordinarily challenging and stressful times.
But even though our world looks very different today than it did even a week ago, our commitment to our scholars and their families has not changed. What has changed, for a time, is how we go about building individual social capital, encouraging healthy social and emotional development, and facilitating college and career readiness.
First, we want you to know that we are monitoring the situation with the coronavirus very closely and taking steps to contain transmission. Our staff is working remotely and will stagger any essential in-office time. We have cancelled our group camp orientation and will move to virtual camp orientations as needed. We are also postponing new mentor trainings and our camp kick-off party until gatherings are safe. Sadly, all theater and other enrichment events for our scholars and mentors have been cancelled or postponed for the foreseeable future.
Second, we are communicating often with our summer camp partners. At this point, all of our summer camps are planning to go forward but with enhanced health screenings and thorough sanitation efforts.
Third, we will be leveraging our army of volunteer mentors to share community resources with our scholars and their families to make sure everyone in need has access to resources. And we are calling on our mentors to stay engaged with their mentees remotely and to encourage creative and educational learning while CMS moves to online learning.
Over the coming months, we know that the opportunity gap will widen because of COVID-19, but we at Wayfinders are committed to doing all we can to keep that from happening for the scholars we serve. It is going to take a while, but we will get through this crisis together. Thank you for your commitment to our scholars, and please stay safe and well.
